Many students experience stage fright from time to time. As a music teacher, one of my main goals is to help them overcome this fear and be confident in the music they are making. For many musicians, myself included, preparation is key. Especially for a play or musical involving speaking parts, it is key that each child prepares for their part weeks in advance. I do my best to assign parts and send them home as soon as possible. We will also do several rehearsals in front of an audience to ensure the children have plenty of experience doing the "real thing." Throughout the year, I also try to remind students that it's more about the process, not the outcome. It's about coming together and making music together. It doesn't have to be perfect!
